Event: Eric & Jen’s Wedding Reception
Venue: Blackstone Golf Club – Marengo, IL
Date: Saturday, May 19, 2012
It was a perfect reception. A gorgeous day, a beautiful Bride, a handsome Groom, a stunning white Stormtrooper, a stunning dirty Sandtrooper and a short Biker Scout… who could ask for anything more? But seriously, it really was a ton of fun for everyone involved.
We arrived at Blackstone Golf Club around 6:00 pm and suited up while the guests were at the outdoor rooster party. At 7:00, with the Imperial March as our cue, we escorted the bride and groom into the banquet area where the approximate 150 guests were already seated at their tables. They loved it. It was quite a tight fit as we made our way to the head table. Once we reached our post, we stood at attention while the speeches were being made by the Groom, Best Man and Maid of Honor.
Once the speeches were over, we made our exit outside for a little fresh air while the guests began their buffet-style dinner. Throughout the dinner hour, many guests came out to join us and to have their photos taken with us. The wedding photographer took some outstanding photos and she was having such a great time with us. She will be sending some to us shortly, but until then, we are very thankful that we did receive some from one of the Blackstone Golf Club employees that took photos with her camera.
We were suited up for an hour and a half and then made our exit. A donation was made to the American Cancer Society for $150 by the Groom. During his thank you speech to all the guests, he mentioned that we were all volunteers and that tonight we were “working” for the American Cancer Society. With that, I had a couple of guests that came up to me during the evening that asked me where they could make a donation as well. I gave them our MWG business card, as well as one of my trading cards, and told them that they could go to the ACS website to donate and asked that they please mention the MWG as a co-donor. We may never know what their donations were, but it was very touching to know that we were able to encourage them to donate to such a great cause, just by being there.
With that, I’d like to give a HUGE “Thank You” to Eric Scheuermann and Steve Mammen for coming out with me to this troop. Eric and his Sandtrooper was a big hit (it usually is). The bride asked why he was so dirty and when we explained, the groom leaned over to tell us that he hadn’t gotten a chance to show her the Original Trilogy movies yet. I told him that was ok. They could watch them on their honeymoon.
We really had a great time and I can’t thank you enough for helping me out. You guys are awesome!
