Armor in need of help
Hi everyone. I been inactive and armor put away for long time. I am currently doing some repairs on my tie armor since its only minor facelift stuff. But my Storm Trooper is in need of help. I bought it at least 13 years ago. Its pretty yellowed, but splotchy in areas. I read some people have tried the fusion paint. Was wondering if anyone had any luck in this. I also thought maybe some 2000 grit sand paper, but thought with the plastic probably wound not do anything but dull it. I also thought of buying a new set, but trying to be cost effective and not sure how wife would enjoy me having a 3rd set of armor. lol
I was looking at a vendor that has a website that had full fiberglass. But like I said I been out of the game for so long I dont know which vendors are the good ones anymore and which to avoid. Back then it was Wookie Cantina and another guy, which unfortunatly I bought from the other guy. I thought maybe he clear coated it (he said he didnt). But it hasnt chipped or peeled.
Sorry to ramble on and thanks in advance.

Please see 7956&5365's clone build if you are thinking of repainting.. We did NOT use fusion.. our clones turned out beautifully and I'm sure the non-flat whites would work just as well..

Re: Armor in need of help
Hmmm... yellowing is a pain in the butt to deal with. I know my BF's Biker is initially white ABS, but was painted white. When he purchased it, we saw it was yellowish. So we went out and bought white spray paint that says "Never Yellows". We painted the entire armor and coated it MANY MANY times. A few wears later, and it started to yellow again. We went out and bought a different brand of paint. And this time, only he re-painted it. AGAIN, after just a few wears, it already looks a bit yellower than the white cumber-bun (cloth stomach piece). He doesn't wear it in direct sunlight, nor does he leave it out in the heat. At this point, his best solution might be to just remove the white paint all together down to the white ABS. That doesn't yellow.
So, basically, I'm suggesting that if your armor is made out of a white plastic, you might be better of just removing the paint and then glossing up the plastic. Good luck either way. It would be a lot of work to remove the paint, but believe me, its even more work having to constantly repaint it. Ugh...

Some guys have had success bringing their old armor (and vintage toys even) back from yellow to white with mixes like these. Mostly Hydrogen Peroxide and a few other ingredients. Mix, apply, leave out in the sun for a couple of days to speed up the reaction. Might be worth a try before you repaint it.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get the armor out and see what I can figure out. I still have it put away in the container since working on my TIE. My Biker scout armor stayed white, yet the helmet is yellow. Exact opposite of my Trooper armor. Go figure.

Re: Armor in need of help
Rust-o-leum White professional spray paint (Silver can) works wonders, I love it so much and I usually have to just polish my armor with novus from time to time to keep the sheen. About 4-5 light coats and it builds to be brighter after that, with no need to clear coat. Never have had a problem with it at all. Let it have it's dry times and let it set about 2 weeks when it's all done and you'll be very happy with the results.
Stay away from fusion for TK's, you want that bright reflective look.
My 2 cents.

Many bothans died to bring you this post...the tearing of ligaments and almost the loss of a TK's finger...

Try that hydrogen peroxide mix while we have some sunny days and see if you can get it to work.

Wow! Were you storing it in an oven? Because I think you've reached a nice golden brown! lol. I hope you're able to get it back to a nice white shine soon!

Yeah I'll give the mix a try. Lol na if I was cooking it I would have left it in longer to get the edges crunchy.

Wow... when you said it yellowed, I wasn't thinking that bad! I didn't think that was possible!! Good luck trooper! At the very least, we might do a clone armor party when the armor is ready. You are more than welcome to bring "that" with. Not sure where or when this party will happen, but it is bound to.

I think I would cry if my suit did that.
